Prompt injection is a boundary problem

Instructions found in a webpage or document should not gain the authority of the user or system processing it.

Start with a clear boundary

Treat retrieved text as untrusted data. A prompt can explain this distinction, but system design also needs to enforce it.

Handle failure deliberately

Give tools narrow capabilities and check authorization at the service boundary. Require confirmation for consequential external actions.

Make the result understandable

Test malicious instructions as part of evaluation. Layered permissions, logging, and review provide stronger protection than a prompt rule alone.
