Types are most useful when they describe boundaries clearly and catch mismatches before a request reaches production.

Start with a clear boundary
Type data as it enters the service and define the shape that leaves it. Avoid a broad dictionary for every stage when request, domain, and response data have different jobs.
Handle failure deliberately
External services fail and optional fields are genuinely optional. Represent uncertainty in types and narrow values after validating them.
Make the result understandable
Use small named types and clear signatures. Runtime validation still matters because Python annotations do not validate incoming network data by themselves.
